At what threshold level does hearing loss occur?

At what threshold level does hearing loss occur?

Numerous factors affect hearing loss, such as age and noise level exposure. This chart is a general guideline to compare hearing test results and threshold hearing loss levels.

  • 00 – 24 dB:  Normal hearing range
  • 25 – 40 dB:  Mild hearing loss
  • 41 – 65 dB:  Moderate hearing loss
  • 66 – 90 dB:  Severe hearing loss
  • 91+ dB:       Profound hearing loss

If a person can hear as low as 25 dB at the test frequencies, their hearing is considered acceptable.
