Pure Tone Audiometry is a basic audiogram that measures the softest or least audible sound that a person can hear. Sound is directed to one ear at a time and an employee responds to these sounds using a response switch. The loudness of the sound is measured in decibels (dB). The tone of the sound is measured in frequencies (Hz). Occupational health professionals use Pure Tone audiometry as approved by OSHA.
A normal hearing range is 250-8,000 Hz at 25 dB or lower.
