Who is responsible for a hearing conservation program?
A designated Program Director is responsible for overseeing the hearing conservation program.
The Program Director does not have to be present when a qualified technician conducts an audiogram. The Program Director’s responsibilities include:
- Supervision of audiometric technicians
- Establishing a way for technicians to report problem audiograms to physicians
- Review of all audiograms, including the evaluation of all problem audiograms
- Provide timely notifications of problem audiograms to the employee and to OOM
- Participate in quality assurance measures, including policy and procedures
- Provide recommendations to OOM regarding employee follow-up with audiology or otolaryngology professionals
- Annual reporting duties
