Who is responsible for a hearing conservation program?

A designated Program Director is responsible for overseeing the hearing conservation program.

The Program Director does not have to be present when a qualified technician conducts an audiogram. The Program Director’s responsibilities include:

Supervision of audiometric technicians
Establishing a way for technicians to report problem audiograms to physicians
Review of all audiograms, including the evaluation of all problem audiograms
Provide timely notifications of problem audiograms to the employee and to OOM
Participate in quality assurance measures, including policy and procedures
Provide recommendations to OOM regarding employee follow-up with audiology or otolaryngology professionals
Annual reporting duties
