Who is responsible for a hearing conservation program?

A designated Program Director is responsible for overseeing the hearing conservation program.

The Program Director does not have to be present when a qualified technician conducts an audiogram. The Program Director’s responsibilities include:

  • Supervision of audiometric technicians
  • Establishing a way for technicians to report problem audiograms to physicians
  • Review of all audiograms, including the evaluation of all problem audiograms
  • Provide timely notifications of problem audiograms to the employee and to OOM
  • Participate in quality assurance measures, including policy and procedures
  • Provide recommendations to OOM regarding employee follow-up with audiology or otolaryngology professionals
  • Annual reporting duties
