Breath Alcohol Train-the-Trainer: Alco-Sensor RBT IV
By becoming a certified BAT Instructor, you will be equipped to perform breath alcohol tests, and train and certify your employees to conduct tests, saving you money. This online Breath Alcohol Technician Train-the-Trainer course covers:
- DOT Regulations for alcohol testing (49 CFR Part 40)
- Instrument proficiency training on the Alco-Sensor IV RBT IV device
- The required 7 breath alcohol mock tests
- Calibration technician training and certification
- Instructor training and certification
By the end of this course, students will demonstrate a sound knowledge of their breath alcohol instrument, a firm grasp of the DOT Regulations, and a comprehensive understanding of calibration check and calibration theory and procedures. Students will receive an Instructor manual and other training resources.

Training Phases
Training Phases
Phase 1: Online Procedural, Proficiency and Calibration Training
Procedural training
- Covers federal regulations (49 CFR, Part 40) for alcohol testing
- 4-5 hours in length
- Final exam covers regulations
Online Instrument Proficiency Module
- Covers features/functions of the Alco-Sensor IV/RBT IV
- 2-3 hours in length
- Final exam covers the instrument
Online Calibration Theory Module
- Covers Accuracy Checks/Calibration differences and Calibration principles
- 1 hour in length
- Final exam covers calibration theory
Phase 2: Live Instructor Lead Training Online
Live instructor lead training is offered once per month. You will need to commit to a pre-set training date in advance of the class.
(Day One): Instructor Training
- Covers 7 mock alcohol tests using a live subject
- Accuracy Check and Calibration practice
- 5-6 hours in length
- Students participate in a live instructor lead session using WebEx teleconferencing (your participation date/time is determined immediately following course registration)
(Day Two): Instructor Training
- Covers instructor training best practices and available instructional resources
4-5 hours in length - Students participate in a live instructor lead session using WebEx teleconferencing (your participation date/time is determined immediately following course registration)

Technical Requirements
You will need these tools and resources to complete this training:
- Computer with reliable internet connection
- Computer speakers to hear the course
- Chrome browser is the best internet browser to view this course (Do not use Internet Explorer or Edge)
- Phone OR microphone and speakers on your computer
- Webcam
- Adobe reader capabilities (to view resource documents)

Training Supplies
Training Supplies
You will need the following supplies in order to successfully complete this course.
- Alco-Sensor IV or RBT IV device
- 7 to 8, DOT alcohol testing forms
- 10, mouthpieces for your device
- Tamper evident tape or tamper-proof printer paper for your printer
- Dry gas tank (ethanol content of .038) and tank regulator (to conduct accuracy checks and calibrations)
- Your instructor binder (sent when you register for this course)
- A live subject (friend, coworker, family) that will sit with you during the 7 mock alcohol tests only
- Scope mouthwash or other alcohol-based mouthwash to simulate a positive test
